Why Miami doors misbehave

Humidity swells wood doors so they rub in summer and shrink back in the dry months. Salt air corrodes sliding-door rollers and tracks in the beach cities until a patio door takes two hands to open. Older houses in Kendall and North Miami settle and leave door frames slightly out of square, so the latch no longer meets the strike plate. Each of these is a small adjustment that most people live with for years.

We plane edges, reset hinges, shim strike plates, replace rollers and clean tracks so the door closes with one finger again. If a door is beyond adjustment, we replace it with a pre-hung slab and reuse or upgrade the hardware.

What we repair

  • Interior doors that stick, rub, swing open or will not latch
  • Sagging or squeaking hinges, loose hinge screws, stripped holes
  • Closet, bifold and pocket doors off the track
  • Sliding glass door rollers, tracks and handles
  • Screen doors, storm doors and pet doors
  • Cabinet doors, soft-close hinges and drawer slides

Interior door installation

When a door is warped, delaminated or simply dated, replacing it is often faster than fighting it. We install pre-hung interior doors where the frame is coming out too, and hang new slabs in existing frames — scribing and trimming the slab to the opening, cutting hinge mortises and the lock bore, and fitting your hardware so the door swings, latches and clears the floor.

Closet doors are part of the same work: bifold, bypass sliding and barn-style doors on surface-mounted track, with the track anchored into block or a header rather than drywall alone. Exterior entry doors and impact-rated doors are a different category in Florida — they involve permits and product approvals, so those go to a licensed contractor.

  • Pre-hung interior doors, frame and casing included
  • Slab replacement in an existing frame, hinges and bore cut to fit
  • Bifold, bypass and barn-style closet doors
  • New knobs, levers, hinges and door stops fitted
  • Casing and trim re-set and caulked
  • Old door hauled to your building's disposal area or the curb

How it works

Describe the problem or send a short video of the door in action. We quote a flat price per door. On the day we diagnose the cause rather than the symptom — a door that will not latch is usually a hinge, not the latch — adjust or replace what is needed, and test it a dozen times before we call it done. Weatherstripping and door sweeps can be replaced in the same visit.

Your Questions, Answered

How much does door repair cost in Miami?

We price flat-rate, not by the hour. Tell us the job — a photo or two helps — and we give you one upfront number before anything is scheduled. The price moves with how many doors, whether it is an adjustment or a replacement, the hardware involved and whether the door is a standard interior slab or a sliding glass unit. Whatever we quote is what you pay; there is no clock running and no add-ons at the door.

Why does my door stick in the summer?

Wood swells with humidity, and Miami summers push it to the limit. If the door rubs along the top or the latch side, planing a small amount off the edge and sealing it usually fixes it for good. If it rubs at the bottom, the hinges have likely sagged and need resetting.

Can you fix a sliding glass door that is hard to open?

Yes. In most cases the rollers are worn or corroded and the track is full of grit. We replace the rollers, clean and adjust the track, and the door glides again. If the glass or frame itself is damaged, that is a glazier's job and we will say so.

Do you install new interior doors?

Yes, pre-hung interior doors and slab replacements, including hardware. Exterior and hurricane-rated doors in Florida involve permits and impact ratings, so those belong with a licensed contractor.

Does a handyman need a license in Florida?

Not for minor repairs. Florida does not require a state contractor licence for handyman work such as mounting, assembly, drywall patching, caulking, door adjustment and swapping like-for-like fixtures. Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing and structural work must be done by licensed contractors. Double Handyman sticks to the minor-repair side of that line and tells you plainly when a job belongs with a licensed trade.
