Flooring Installation in Miami

Double Handyman installs floating floors across Miami-Dade and South Broward — click-lock luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and laminate in bedrooms, offices, closets and small spaces — with the underlayment, transitions and baseboard or quarter-round put back so the room looks finished. Flat-rate price before booking. Tile, nail-down or glue-down hardwood and subfloor or structural work go to a flooring or licensed contractor, and condo associations usually need to approve hard flooring first.

Why floating floors suit Miami — with a few local rules

Click-lock vinyl plank has become the default floor for Miami bedrooms and rentals for good reasons: it is waterproof or close to it, it does not swell in humidity the way older laminate did, and it floats over the concrete slab most of our homes sit on, so there is no nailing and no glue. It also goes over a lot of existing hard floors, which saves tearing out old tile.

The local rules are about sound and moisture. In condos, many Miami associations require board approval and a sound-rated underlayment before any hard floor goes down above another unit, so the neighbour downstairs does not hear every footstep. On a ground-floor slab, moisture coming up through the concrete needs the right vapour barrier. We ask about both before we quote.

What we install

  • Click-lock luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and rigid-core vinyl
  • Click-lock laminate in bedrooms, offices and living areas
  • Underlayment and vapour barrier suited to the slab and building
  • Closets, hallways and small rooms, including door undercuts
  • Transition strips, reducers and stair-nose at doorways
  • Baseboard and quarter-round removed and reinstalled

Typical flooring jobs in Miami

The usual call is a bedroom or two — carpet out, vinyl plank in — in a condo in Aventura or North Miami Beach, or a home office in Doral or Pembroke Pines. Landlords replace worn carpet in a rental with vinyl plank that survives tenants and mopping. In older houses in North Miami and Kendall, LVP often goes over the existing terrazzo or tile in one room to change the look without demolition, as long as the old floor is flat and sound.

Most of these are small-to-medium jobs: a room, a closet, a hallway. Whole-home flooring projects with tile removal and levelling are better served by a dedicated flooring company, and we will tell you honestly when that is the case.

How it works

Send the room measurements, photos of the current floor and the flooring you chose, and tell us whether it is a condo above another unit. We quote a flat price. On the day we remove baseboards or quarter-round, remove carpet if needed, check the floor for flatness, lay the underlayment, click the planks in with staggered seams and expansion gaps, undercut door jambs, fit transitions and put the trim back. Furniture moving within the room is part of the job.

Where the line is

Floating floors are handyman-scale work. Tile installation, nail-down or glue-down hardwood, removing old tile, self-levelling large areas and anything involving the subfloor or structure belong with a flooring or licensed contractor. If the slab has a moisture or crack problem that needs fixing first, we stop and tell you rather than cover it up.

Your Questions, Answered

How much does flooring installation cost in Miami?

We price flat-rate, not by the hour. Tell us the job — a photo or two helps — and we give you one upfront number before anything is scheduled. The price moves with the square footage, whether carpet or old flooring has to come out, how flat the existing floor is, the number of doorways and transitions and whether baseboards are reused or replaced. Whatever we quote is what you pay; there is no clock running and no add-ons at the door.

Can vinyl plank go over tile or terrazzo?

Yes, usually, if the existing floor is flat, sound and the grout lines are not deep. We check flatness before quoting; deep grout lines or uneven tile may need a skim or levelling first, which we will tell you about up front.

Do I need condo approval to install vinyl plank flooring?

In most Miami condos, yes. Many associations require board approval and a sound-rated underlayment for any hard floor above another unit. Ask management for the flooring rules and the required rating before you buy, and we install to that spec.

Is vinyl plank good for Miami humidity?

Yes. Rigid-core vinyl plank does not swell with humidity the way older laminate does and handles spills well. It still needs expansion gaps at the walls and the right vapour barrier over a ground-floor slab.

Do you install tile or hardwood?

No. We install floating click-lock floors. Tile, nail-down or glue-down hardwood and subfloor work are a flooring contractor's job, and we will point you there if that is what your project needs.

Does a handyman need a license in Florida?

Not for minor repairs. Florida does not require a state contractor licence for handyman work such as mounting, assembly, drywall patching, caulking, door adjustment and swapping like-for-like fixtures. Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing and structural work must be done by licensed contractors. Double Handyman sticks to the minor-repair side of that line and tells you plainly when a job belongs with a licensed trade.
