Sliding Door Repair in Miami
Double Handyman repairs sliding glass doors across Miami-Dade and South Broward: worn or corroded rollers replaced, tracks cleaned and straightened, locks, latches and handles swapped, panels re-aligned, and screen door panels and weatherstripping renewed so the door glides with one hand again. Flat-rate price before booking, same-week in most cases. Broken glass goes to a glazier, and new or replacement impact door units need a permit and a licensed contractor.
Why sliding doors fail so often in Miami
Almost every condo tower in Sunny Isles, Aventura and Miami Beach has at least one large sliding glass door to the balcony, and most houses have one to the patio or pool. Those doors live in salt air, wind-driven rain and sand. The steel rollers underneath the panel corrode, the bearings flatten, grit packs into the bottom track, and the door starts to drag, jump the track or need two hands and a shoulder to open.
Heavy impact-glass panels make it worse. They weigh far more than the older single-pane doors, so a worn roller wears the track down fast, and a door that is forced every day bends its latch and pulls the handle loose. Most of this is fixable without replacing anything but small parts.
What we repair on sliding doors
- Worn, seized or corroded rollers replaced with matching or upgraded wheels
- Bottom tracks cleaned, de-gritted and straightened where bent
- Roller height adjusted so the panel sits level and seals
- Locks, latches, keepers and handles replaced on the existing door
- Sliding screen door panels re-rolled, re-screened or re-hung
- Weatherstripping, pile seals and bumpers renewed
Typical sliding door jobs in Miami condos and homes
In the beach towers the usual call is a balcony door that grinds and will not lock because the panel has dropped and the latch no longer meets the keeper. In older houses in North Miami, Kendall and Hollywood it is often a patio door with original rollers and a track worn into a groove, plus a screen door that falls off whenever it is pushed. Seasonal owners often find the door stuck after months closed up in humidity.
We identify the door's make or roller type, carry common rollers and lock parts, and order exact matches for older or discontinued doors. When a part has to be ordered, we tell you on the first visit and return once it arrives.
How it works
Send a short video of the door opening and closing, plus a photo of the bottom edge and the lock. We quote a flat price. On the day we lift the panel out of the track, inspect and replace the rollers, clean and true the track, adjust the height, replace the lock or handle if needed and lubricate with a dry lubricant that does not collect sand. We open and close it until it runs smoothly and locks every time.
Where the line is
We repair existing doors. Cracked or fogged glass belongs with a glazier. Replacing a whole sliding door unit, especially an impact-rated one, is permitted work in Florida that needs a licensed contractor and approved product, and we will say so if a door is past repair rather than keep patching it.

Your Questions, Answered
How much does sliding door repair cost in Miami?
We price flat-rate, not by the hour. Tell us the job — a photo or two helps — and we give you one upfront number before anything is scheduled. The price moves with the size and weight of the panel, whether the rollers are a common type or need to be ordered, the state of the track, and whether locks, handles or the screen door are included. Whatever we quote is what you pay; there is no clock running and no add-ons at the door.
Why is my sliding glass door so hard to open?
Worn or corroded rollers and a dirty track are the cause in most cases. The rollers under the panel wear flat or rust, the door drops onto the track and drags. New rollers, a cleaned and straightened track and a height adjustment usually make it glide again.
Can sliding door rollers be replaced without replacing the door?
Yes, and that is the normal repair. The panel is lifted out of the frame, the old rollers come out of the bottom rail and new ones go in. The door, glass and frame stay exactly as they are.
Can you fix a sliding door that will not lock?
Usually, yes. A door that will not lock has often dropped so the latch misses the keeper; raising the rollers fixes that. If the lock itself is broken, we replace it with a matching mortise or surface lock on the existing door.
Do you replace sliding glass doors or the glass?
No. Broken or fogged glass goes to a glazier, and replacing a full door unit, particularly an impact-rated one, needs a permit and a licensed contractor in Florida. We repair the moving parts of the door you have and tell you honestly if it is past that point.
Do you work in condos and high-rises with building rules?
Yes, and most of our work is in them. We carry insurance and can send a certificate of insurance to your management office, we work inside the building's permitted hours, use the service elevator when the building requires it, and protect common hallways on the way in and out.
